Graphic Design for the Theater: Field Trip to Jersey

Hello again! Noah Press, Graphic Designer, here.

Our last stop on our New Vic art tour is Unimac Graphics, our brochure printer since 2008. I always enjoy the short trip out to their facility in Northern New Jersey (it gets me out of the office!).

The facility is an enormous room with one HUGE printer that prints our brochure.
That entire machine is the printer!
Once it is printed the paper gets carried through this massive machine all the way to the other side of the warehouse, where it is cut and folded by another humongous machine. Sadly, I still have a lot of work to do so I can't just sit around while it prints.

My  job is making sure that the colors are printing correctly. At times it can become very complicated to check and correct colors. The brochure prints in strips of four pages across. That means if I need to correct, say, the color red for the 8cho page, the reds change in the other three pages in the strip as well.

Many (many) hours later, we have a rough mock up of the final brochure!

I really enjoyed creating the 2011-2012 Season brochure this year. I was able to try a lot of new concepts, and in the end we came out with a fantastic, colorful and energetic brochure which fits perfectly to The New Victory's spirit.

You can expect to find it on your door steps in June!

[New Vic note: If you're not already on our mailing list, you can request a season brochure delivered to your home by filling out this form.]
