Our Ultimate Feel-Good Playlist

Over here at the New Vic, we've all done our fair share of Bob Marley research as we prepared for Bob Marley's Three Little Birds. Reading stories about his life, talking to his family members, and, above all, jamming to his timeless tunes have made every little thing alright these past few weeks!

The more we learned about the musician and activist, the more his philosophies really took hold in our offices. Sure, it's nice that a Marley melody reminds us of warm, tropical days amidst polar vortexes and snowstorms, but upon a closer listen, beautifully simple words of wisdom prevailed and have stuck with us. (You can find a compilation of quotes that we're loving over on Pinterest.)

Perhaps one of our favorite themes in Marley's music and lyrics is the message that music is not only something that brings people together and brings people joy, but it also has a healing power. You can find this message in "Trench Town Rock," when he sings, "one good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain." You might also look to "Funky Reggae Party" with the lyric, "it takes a joyful sound to make the world go round." And we musn't forget those three little birds "singing sweet songs" and reminding us that "every little thing is gonna be alright!"

So, now that we've exhausted Bob Marley's lengthy catalogue of songs, we thought we'd keep the party going and collect an additional playlist for you to pop on when something's got you down. From the Jackson 5 to Beyonce, this carefully cultivated list is a guaranteed pick-me-up! Add the playlist on Spotify, or play in your browser, below!
